Life is Joy (人生一楽 / jinsei ichiraku) - Chinese calligraphy in stylized seal script. This calligraphy artwork is a reference to a very rare style of great seal script, which characterizes with accentuated and oblong forms of kanji. This calligraphy style was used in ancient China mainly for decorative purposes, found on bronze dishes and tripods. The character 一 (one) was rotated 90 degrees, and written in a wavy brush stroke. Here is one of my favorite works, 若 (wakai), i.e. youth, written in a slightly stylized seal script, and more precisely small seal script, which is one of 5 core calligraphy scripts (feel free to read my full article on the history and evolution of Chinese calligraphy scripts) in history of Chinese calligraphy. It is also the oldest and the most complex script that was developed. What I love about seal script is its raw structure and pure energy, as it is very strongly connected to nature, and it is far less abstract than the shape and form of more modern Chinese calligraphy scripts. This work is the smallest one that I have for sale at the moment, and its dimensions are 20cm x 25cm.
