Here is one of my works that I wrote for designing a tattoo in kanji. I used a very responsive brush with extremely springy back (base). I is a Japanese brush known as maki fude, hand-made by a father and son in southern Hoshu. I absolutely love this brush, it is fantastic for cursive and semi-cursive scripts, but also for standard script as well. Characters are 幸運, which means good fortune or good luck.
I was playing in photoshop with different designs, and my wife actually suggested those colors. I didnt want to go for a seamless design, as in making the leaves and the line embedded in a way that it would look like written on a paper of that color. I wanted to add a digital touch to it, and make it slightly obvious. Hence the shadows and a slightly 3D appearance.
