Finally I had some time to play around in photoshop and create some concept art based on my photo of Tokyo. The whole thing is hand painted in photoshop, except a few of those spacecrafts, which I grabbed from Deviant art page stock images. I took this photo some time ago waiting for the hazy sunset near my place, and as usual I took few more photos just in case. I had a few ideas of creating a similar image, and this is an outcome of my today's doodling in photoshop. Photoshop manipulations and composite digital art usually takes a bit of time, this one was not too bad, I think I finished it in 2.5h Anyways, enjoy and more is coming! It often happens so that during photo editing in photoshop or lightroom we tend to overdo the editing. Whether it is saturation, contrast or sharpness, after having a second look we see that the photo is overcooked. This is exactly what I did to this portrait shot of my wife, so I went back in to photoshop and fixed it. Then I decided to create ansho0rt tutorial for you guys. Hire a photographer in Tokyo Buy original Chinese and Japanese calligraphy art My favorite type of portraiture - shadows, drama, moody lfeel and the mind soaring far. I was testing some light setups today and asked my wife to pose for me, and here is one of the shots that we took. I think we will continue tomorrow so maybe there will be more cool photos to come. I have added my Japanese calligraphy to the photo, which reads 翔心 - i.e. soaring mind. I also added some bokeh (from Japanese word 暈ける, which means to fade or to blur) and lens flare to make it more stage like or even cinematic.

Hire a photographer in Tokyo Buy original Chinese and Japanese calligraphy art Here is my video which shows my full workflow of high end beauty portrait retouching. I wanted to show you guys how tedious and time consuming is photo retouching. It is a very creative process and requires a lot of artistic imagination and technical skills. Especially the complex part of tonal smoothing and color corrections. Skin has a very complex color palette and there is a myriad of tones there to be fixed. The whole process took me about 2.5h, and there are no shortcuts really. It usually takes anywhere between 40 min to 3h depending on the type of portrait and complexity of tones, and also on where my artistic vision takes me to. I treat every single portrait individually and often times I edit one photo in multiple ways with various results, just like you can see in those three images below the video. It looks very cinematic and since blue and yellow tones are the opposite color on the color wheel, it is no wonder that they add a massive punch and a very unique feel to a photo or a movie. Here is a shot that I took for a documentary movie (currently in making) in the famous Nakagin Tower in Tokyo. Hire a photographer in Tokyo Buy original Chinese and Japanese calligraphy art Photo editing is an art, and that is also what distinguishes a photographer from an artist. Portraiture goes far beyond this, you not only need to know your art, but you also have to have great personal skills to be able to connect with your model. Light and body language are two key composite elements of a great portrait, the rest in up photo editing skills. Having said that, color photo editing and black and white conversion have lots in common. In order to create an amazing black and white photo, you need to create a really good color version of it beforehand, so then you can work with tones by changing color values on top of contrast brightness and other settings. If the colors are all over the place, so will be the 256 tones of black and white photo. Final touches applied to black and white portrait will also be different than those in a color version. If you look at those two portrait photos below, you ll notice an opposite vignette effect applied to them. Whilst da dark vignette works great in the color version, by adding drama and contrast, it would look claustrophobic in a black and white version.

Hire a photographer in Tokyo Buy original Chinese and Japanese calligraphy art I very rarely share photography art that I create for my private clients and this is because most of my work is very personal and aimed at both people visiting and living in Tokyo who want to experience something unique, not rushed, and intimate. However, since I will be updating my portfolio and revisiting certain sections of my websites that need updating, I am currently selecting some photos for this very purpose, and decided to share with you this lovely portrait that I took during a photoshoot for a client here in Tokyo this Saturday. It is often that one travels alone or with a companion and naturally wants to take good photos as a memory of having a great time. The problem is that most people do not know how to take great photos. Many of my clients come to me very self conscious and worried about how they will come out in a photo. I always tell them the same thing, it is not the issue of not being photogenic, but the fact that we are used to seeing ourselves in bad photos, because people who take them are usually non professionals. Portrait photography is all about light, body language and a moment, if those are in harmony, then the image will be pleasing to the eye. This very knowledge of sensing the body language and being able to capture it at its best in a great light is what differentiates a pro from anyone else. But this is not the biggest problem here. With current technology and amazing camera gear out there, it is much easier now to snap decent shots. However, the true beauty and charm of photography comes from both the ability of taking great photos and the knowledge of how to edit them to give them a special and unique feel. It is an art to be able to capture a moment in time and make it look meaningful. And this is where my services distinguish themselves, I spend a lot of time post processing every single image to ensure the magazine like quality, and give them a very personal touch, befitting the personality of my clients and the mood they are after. Hiring me you do not hire just a photographer, you are hiring an artist who is passionate about the process of creating. I have well over 15 years of experience in various types of visual and other types of art (poetry, classical music, etc). While taking or editing photographs I aim at creating something unforgettable, something that will not only help you remember your adventures, but perhaps also look at yourself in a positively new way.

Hire a photographer in Tokyo Buy original Chinese and Japanese calligraphy art If you follow my blogs you well know that ever so often I merge the art of photography and Japanese or Chinese calligraphy. Both visual arts tell us different stories and evoke different emotions depending on the viewer. I find such combination a very exciting blend of what is ancient and what is modern. Since I edited this Mt. Fuji photo in a way that it resembles a painting, I felt that a calligraphy will compliment it very well. Enjoy!

It is so difficult to depict the mood and atmosphere of what I saw there, but I felt that traditional photo editing would just not do it justice. When I was shooting this scene it felt so surreal, just like an epic movie. It took some time today to play with this photo in photoshop and my aim was to create an image that would be on the verge of photography and painting. By applying textures to the final edit, I think I achieved a dreamy, mysterious, out of this world, and untouchable feel. I really love the final result, I hope you enjoy it too!

As you may intuitively deduce from the title and the photo combined, negative space is what surrounds whatever the subject of the photo is. In this case it is the sky. Negative space redirects attention to the subject of the photo, and makes it stand out more than any other technique, perhaps except color splash. Negative space works in any type of photography, but it is extremely powerful in black and white, where instead of colors we only have 256 tones. To be effective, negative space should be used with other basic techniques in photography, like rules of composition, balance, story telling, etc. Think of negative space as of a soundtrack for a good movie. It should not be noticeable, but at the same time it should be essential for the photo to be successful and complete.

5:30 am in Tokyo and I am out with my gear chasing some steel and glass shots of Tokyo architecture. It has been a while since I actually had time for my private photography, but if I don't do it every now and then I would go insane. This area of Tokyo is fantastic for abstract architecture photography, some great black and white shots, especially the long exposure surreal fine art with smudgy clouds and lots of movement surrounding absolute stillness (or steelness if you will). Half of the reason for me roaming there was to find interesting places and angles for film making. Stay tuned for more cool imagery!

So, I begun my research and studies of the film genre and assembled my first film making rig. You can expect some new cool ideas and visual feasts appearing on my sites in the near future. Recently I have been also studying the recording and processing sound, film editing and even special effects. Now it's time to go out and have some fun.

Hire a photographer in Tokyo Buy original Chinese and Japanese calligraphy art High contrast portraiture is fun but can be tricky, especially if the tonal range is massive, like in this photo, where it goes from nearly 0 to 255 (i.e. from pure white to pure black). The trick is to capture the entire dynamic range, without blowing highlights or completely wiping the black tones in the key areas of a photograph. In this case the model was backlit by a strong sunlight, which really pushed my camera to its limits. Exposing such photos can be a task, because if you expose for the model face, the rest will most likely be blown out to pure white, especially the window. Another thing is that she is wearing a black suit and has black hair, and since the model is the subject, you will need details in those. This was shot handheld without a flash or reflector, though the white walls of the room reflected some light back onto the model. I really wanted to see how much I can get away with in photoshop in terms of recovering data, and how wide is the true dynamic range of my camera. It is just like Chinese calligraphy, which cannot be rewritten in the same way. Split toning technique comes from film days, and it was achieved by mixing incorrect chemicals with a certain type of film, which now can be done digitally in Lightroom or photoshop. It is usually down to adding blue cast to shadow areas and yellow or orange cast to highlights. Often seen in Hollywood movies and it is based on the concept of how eyes wander through the image, Saturated and warm areas will most likely draw your attention first.
